If you're moving to Calgary from another province, the liquor landscape will look different. Alberta is the only province with fully privatized liquor sales — no government-run liquor stores. Everything is private, which means more selection, competitive pricing, and stores that actually compete for your business.

Liquor stores are everywhere in Calgary — in strip malls, standalone locations, and inside grocery store complexes. Major chains include Liquor Depot, Wine and Beyond, and Co-op Wine Spirits Beer. Independent stores often have the best craft and specialty selections.
Alberta liquor prices are generally lower than BC, Ontario, and most other provinces. No provincial sales tax (just 5% GST) helps. The flat markup system means premium products are especially well-priced compared to provinces with percentage-based markups.
