July 1st is a national holiday built around BBQs, fireworks, and cold drinks in the sun. Here's what to stock for a proper Canada Day celebration.
Go Canadian: a flat of Molson Canadian is practically patriotic. Mix in Keith's, Moosehead, or Kokanee for variety. If you want craft, support Alberta: Wild Rose, Big Rock, or any local brewery.
The most Canadian cocktail there is. Vodka, Clamato, Worcestershire, hot sauce, celery salt, and a stalk of celery. Make a big pitcher and let people help themselves. It's a Canada Day essential.
Rosé for the patio crowd. An Okanagan white for supporting Canadian wine. Cold and refreshing — that's the only rule for outdoor summer wine.
Ice (way more than you think — Canada Day is hot). Coolers and seltzers for non-beer drinkers. Pop and juice for kids and non-drinkers. A backup plan: save (825) 450-3030 in your phone before the party starts, because at some point you will run out of something.
