Calgary has quietly built one of Canada's best craft beer scenes. From the Barley Belt district in the southeast to neighbourhood taprooms across the city, there's an Alberta-made beer for every taste. Here are 10 breweries worth knowing.
Calgary's original craft brewery, operating since 1996. Their Wraspberry Ale is a summer institution and their IPA programme keeps getting better. A safe recommendation for anyone new to craft beer.
One of Alberta's founding craft breweries. Traditional Ale is a classic, and their seasonal releases are consistently solid. Available everywhere, which is both their strength and the reason some craft snobs overlook them unfairly.
Known for bold flavours and clever names. Red Rage red ale and People Skills cream ale are fan favourites. They're not afraid to experiment, which keeps things interesting.
Named after a peak in Kananaskis, their beers lean towards the adventurous. Summit Seeker ISA is sessionable and mountain-trip worthy. One of the best taprooms in the city.
Southeast Calgary gem with a killer taproom. Their Super Saturation series of hazy IPAs are some of the best in Alberta. Worth a visit and worth ordering for delivery.
Small batch, high quality. Their sour programme is outstanding, and the taproom in Ramsay is worth the trip. Bottles are available at better liquor stores across Calgary.
Another southeast favourite. Clean, well-made beers across styles. Their lager and pilsner are particularly impressive — simple styles done perfectly.
Despite the name, they're proudly Calgary. West Coast–style IPAs and a chill taproom vibe. Growing rapidly and showing up at more liquor stores.
Paddington neighbourhood brewery doing creative and clean ales. Small but mighty, with a loyal local following.
A brewpub with excellent food to match their beer. Their Crook & Nanny IPA is a local classic. Great for a night out, great for takeaway growlers.
